Xenia2's Problem

Well I was very happy when Arvs expressed how friendly he was feeling. I had the opportunity to hook him up with Xenia2 and see how her first pregnancy went! Yay, more offspring! However, little did I know it wouldn't be that easy. I suggested "push norn" and right over to Xenia2 he went. Xenia2 was very happy to oblige and right away there was an instant pregnancy! My celebration was halted soon though.
As you can see, she seems to produce no oestrogen what so ever. I thought things were going normally until xenia2 produced more kisspops with Adalhard. Norns aren't supposed to be able to do that when already pregnant! A check of her reproductive chemicals showed she was still producing everything except for oestrogen, which is what is needed to actually lay the egg. I waited for quite a while and still nothing. Unfortunately I think this means she won't be able to play out her role as queen and will need to be replaced.

Is there anyone interested in receiving Xenia2? I haven't warped her out yet but that's what I intend to do before importing the next queen but I can also put her up for adoption somewhere if anyone is interested in taking a more detailed look at her. I have no idea what it is that messed up her oestrogen so badly. As you can remember there was some confusion over it. She seems to be constantly fertile, even when pregnant, and unable to lay her eggs.

  1. It's great to see you posting a lot again, Kittie! Isn't progesterone needed to move a pregnancy along, and not estrogen? I could be wrong... I'm still so used to the simple systems from Creatures 1! That's part of the reason I haven't commented on your genetics analysis: So many more variables!

One possible explanation is that the higher threshold of progesterone needed to lay an egg in gene 202 could be higher than what a normal pregnant female produces. Another thing that might be a factor is a missing gene or two: I always find these to be trickier to spot, especially in mixed breed Norns. Maybe someone else will have some ideas, too. And hopefully Xenia2 will find herself a new home soon!

    1. Good lord I'm so confused. x.x I'm sorry, I may very well be getting oestrogen and progesterone mixed up. progesterone is stuck as you can see in the above picture, the yellow line is not progressing but just staying in the middle, so you may be right. She still can't lay her egg even if i'm wrong though XD

Just a disclaimer, I don't claim to be a creatures genetics expert, I just claim to be a creatures docking station blogger, haha. XD
Yes something is most definitely wrong with her. Thanks for your comment!

  2. If I had to take a guess, I'd say that it's due to the bar for her Progesterone receptor being set a bit high - that is, the chemical degrades before it can get to the point where the receptor fires and Xenia2 lays her egg.

As an alternative measure, you could forcibly inject her with Progesterone when she gets pregnant (via the CAOs Command Line or something like norngirl's Preggy Candy) if you don't mind having to intervene every time Xenia2 gets pregnant. Then again, you might not want that passed on to the next generation, so it's your call.

    1. You're right, I have remembered the two choices of either injecting her with progesterone or using the preggy treats many times in the past when confronted with this problem. It's not the first time i've had a queen that couldn't lay. I've decided against it in order not to risk passing the trait on to the next generation. That's why i'm going to be sending her through the warp after a while. I am just waiting two or three days to see if anyone expresses the desire to have her.. so I know whether to upload her somewhere or not.

That is an interesting possibility you proposed as a reason to why her progesterone is being stupid. Thank you for sharing that.

  3. You know what? I've had a few problems with Apple norn mixes not having enough progesterone, and their just generation 2. I think it's the apple genes not mixing very well. D:
